Thank you for visiting our webpage. Research at the Medical Research Council Cancer Unit (MRC CU) aims to understand the biological processes governing the transition from normal epithelial homeostasis to cancer. We currently have nine research programmes comprising over 130 staff and students in total (see individual Programme descriptions). Our approach is highly multi-disciplinary and includes quantitative modelling approaches as well as experimental and clinical studies. The over-arching goal is to inform and develop new methods for diagnosis and interception of cancer to improve clinical outcomes. The environment within the Unit is highly collaborative and promotes inter-disciplinary interactions both within the Unit as well as with other cancer research across the Biomedical Campus, including the Mitochondrial Biology Unit and the CRUK Cambridge Centre. We have close links with the CRUK funded Early Detection Programme which has three Group Leaders who are also based within the same Hutchison-MRC building. The size of the Unit means that we have the critical mass to make an impact in cancer research but we are also small enough to enable a personal and supportive atmosphere where junior and senior members are free to mix freely and exchange ideas. Beyond the Biomedical Campus we also count ourselves very fortunate to be able to enjoy the vibrant and beautiful environment of the collegiate University. Rebecca Fitzgerald
